War For Cybertron Omega Supreme (Pic heavy) Tuesday, May 17, 2011 12:06 AM (permalink)

It's finally finished! Well, maybe not, I might add a few things or do some minor touchups, but for now, he's done.  He's not perfect, and if I were to give a go at a second one I'd probably do a few things different to push it even closer, but I'm very pleased with the way it looks now.

Omega Supreme stands about 15 inches tall from head to toe, though I haven't done an exact measurement yet. He has a ball jointed head with another joint in the socket, allowing it to tilt back and forth. His arms have shoulder joints,, swivel bicep joints, elbow joints, rotating joints for the hands and articulated 'fingers'.. His hips are articulated and he retains the articulation of Metroplex' legs. He also has a ton of other, smaller points that allow various pieces along his body to move.

He has a few gimmicks as well. The pistons on his torso can be plugged out, attached to guns and plugged back in for a take on the turret look. The chest panels can open up to reveal his connection to the core of Cybertron, which I've painted fully red in an attempt to match the glowing effect. Likewise with the panels of his cannon arm, though I'm not sure how well it works there (it looks much better in real life though). The panel on his back can open up to reveal his missile launchers. Finally there are the minor articulation points that I mentioned before, which allow the panels to 'reconfigure', to both match the ever shifting panels that the game design had as well as to not get rid in the way of the articulation points. He would have been given LED, but I had no idea where to even begin, so sadly he will have to do without.

There is one thing that I'm unhappy with about this thing though. It's stable, but in some poses the weight becomes too much for it. The legs especially can be a bit finnicky, though it's not impossible to get him in some decent poses, as the pics hopefully show. That was something that required a bit more thought on my part, but he still holds up amazingly well and I don't think that he will break on me.

And of course he still transforms! I tried to get him as close to the game design as possible, but I gave up on trying to find panels for the central cannon. Maybe if I come across something that I can use I will add it to the bot. The hands still combine into a drone ship, and the lower body is cast aside. Might still try and make it into a launch bay or something though.

This is THE best WFC custom to date that I've seen! I love the build and the paint apps and details really bring this sucker to life. In a few of those shots, it literally looks like it jumped out of the game, it's that bright, shiny, and detailed.

                Excellent work!

                  stunning work! it looks beautiful!

A hobby so dependent on creativity and free-thinking should not be pigeonholed into canon for canon's sake.

Sorry for being a bit late with this, but thanks for all the kind words everyone. I'm extremely proud not just with how it turned out, but that others like it as well, even those who have far more talent then I probably will ever have. :D

I also took him to BOTS, the Dutch TF convention that took place on the 22th of May. Put him on display there, and since I found a nice, cheap WFC Soundwave, I took this pic:

Will take a proper pic of him standing next to Omega later.

Also: I am thinking of selling him. On one hand, it'd hurt to part with it, but on the other I could use the extra cash. Only problem is that I never sold anything on eBay, and it's probably not smart to put up a big item without any feedback behind your name. Could anyone give me their thoughts/advice on this? I would really appreciate it. :)

That is really impressive man.  I'm greatly surprised you could get Omega to look so much like he does in the game without a lot of scratch-building.  This is probably the best WFC Omega Supreme that has been built so far.  That's not to say the others haven't been really cool, but this one is the most accurate I've seen to date.  The paint apps are amazing too!

This really is one of the coolest interpretations and executions of this character.
