Classics Omega Supreme by Redline

Description:

Another member of my overall plan to expand the Classics/Universe lineup, Omega Supreme actually wasn't something I'd planned to do. When I was tinkering with a Metroplex ironing out kinks in my plans for creating a Fortress Maximus (yes, he'll be heavily modified as well) the inspiration for this custom just came from nowhere. Omega Supreme utilizes the "brute-mode" robot form of Metroplex, as Fortress Maximus will utilize the "giant-mode" robot form. They will have zero similarities with the exception of the shoulders in the end.

Omega Supreme had his arms heavily ground and reshaped to be able to accept the original G1 Omega Supreme arms. I also added tube styrene at the ends of the arms, so he has weapons in air-base mode, as well as them homaging the original Omega Supreme. The head was heavily re-worked to look more like an Omega Supreme head, including a turret on the back that can move up and down. The outter surfaces of the legs were heavily ground and shaped to allow the attachment of some model tank treads. These had to be engineered to work in robot mode as well, as the placement necessary for them to touch the ground in tank-mode causes them to collide in robot mode. The rear halves are hinged to allow for clearance.

A larger barrel was made from a junker golf club handle, and attached to the model tank's turret to work with Omega Supreme's tank mode. It connects via a chopped off Axe connector, mounting where Metroplex's axe used to go. This gives it full rotation.

I then took a firetruck's ladder, and chopped it all up, installing several hinges, a pair of stoppers, a hook-arm, and added a "roof" that has another female connector on top to make it into not only a rocket launch-tower, but it can swivel and fold out into quasi "wings" in robot mode to help further the homage. The tank turret can mount on top of the launch-tower when he is in his air-base mode.

For his paints, I wanted to give him a legitimate update. I wanted to homage the original's paint-scheme, but also improve it, only where necessary. I used many cartoon screen caps, as well as the Diamond Select statue of him. I used Model Masters Navy Aggressor Grey, Krylon Fusion Red Pepper, Krylon Fusion Yellow, and Rustoleum Almond. I went back to the yellow paint aps, and gave them a paint-wash with a nice orange, Testors Turn Signal Amber (non-metallic). This was my first paint wash, and I wanted it to be subtle, mostly just to make the yellow look nicer. You can see it if you look really closely, especially in panel lines and recesses.
